About Jim Mickells

My wife Sylvia and I were taught the truth by my sister and brother-in-law, Bill and Pat Bledsoe in 1974. On a Tuesday night, after studying the Bible with them, we were both baptized into Christ by Herman Bledsoe, my brother-in-law's father. We attended the El Bethel church in Shelbyville, Tennessee for about six years. I began preaching on occasion there and at the Shelbyville Mills church of Christ when the opportunity presented itself. In October 1980, I began work with the Main Street church of Christ in Chapel Hill, Tennessee. That work continued from October 1980 till we moved in May 1991. The first Sunday of June in 1991, I began working with the Hillview church in Nashville, Tennessee. We worked with these brethren until June of 2001. Then in July of 2001 Sylvia, Marshall and I moved to Tullahoma to begin working with the Westwood church of Christ. We are still working at this present time (October 2009) with these good brethren.

It was while I was working with the Hillview church in Nashville, we had a gospel meeting with brother Greg Gwin, who was involved in the work in the former Soviet Union. He invited me to be a part of an effort to evangelize in Tula, Russia in 1994, which I accepted. I have made ten trips to help in efforts to spread the gospel in Russia or some other part of the former Soviet Union. I have traveled to Russia three times (Tula, Podolsk, and Moscow), Chisinau, Moldova (twice), Almaty, Kazakhstan (three times), and Mariupol, Ukraine (twice). Each local church that I have worked with have given me time that I can go hold meetings for various churches in the states as well. I usually have six weeks for such efforts. I have had the privilege of preaching in several states over the years. I'm thankful to God for the opportunities that He has afforded me to serve Him in various parts of the world.
