THE ATHEIST'S COMPLAINT:
Who sent the Holy Ghost? John 15:26 says that Jesus would send Him, but John 14:26 says the Father would. Is there a contradiction?
Both texts indicate that both the Father and Son played a part in the sending of the Holy Spirit. John 14:26 says, "...the Father will send in My name...", calling to action both the Father and the Son. John 15:26 reads, "...I will send unto you from the Father... which proceedeth from the Father...", again, showing both the Father and Son's involvement.
Consider an earthly illustration. Nancy is visiting with Barb, who needs her yard cut. Nancy says she'll send her son Toby over to cut it for her. Nancy calls home, and speaks with her husband Bob, asking him to send Toby to Barb's place to cut the grass. Who sent Toby, Nancy or Bob? They both did.
Who sent the Spirit? The record of John 14:26 and 15:26 says that both the Father and Son were involved in the sending of the Spirit. There is no contradiction.
