THE ATHEIST'S COMPLAINT:
Do you answer a fool? Proverbs 26:4 says not to answer. Proverbs 26:5 says to answer.

Is there a contradiction?

RESPONSE:
I am confident that all have heard of a 'catch 22'. To act in one manner brings an undesirable result, to act in another fashion bring a different undesirable result. Dealing with a fool is a 'catch 22'. If you answer him, it may happen that others will equate you with the fool. If you don't answer him, then he will not doubt consider himself wise in his own estimation, for he has silenced you.

There is no contradiction.
