The Penalty Of Their Error
Which Was Due

When one engages in that which is contrary to nature, there will always be some price to pay. In recent years, the development of Mad Cow disease serves as a ready example of this truth. Ranchers mixed the boiled remains of dead cattle into their feed, supplying their herds with extra protein, to encourage faster and fatter growth. The result of this cannibalism are yet to be fully seen.

Again, the law of gravity provides a solid picture of the action/reaction relationship which God established in His creation. A beloved sister in Christ recounted a childhood story. With umbrella in hand, she stepped out her second floor window, about to do the Mary Poppins thing, when fortunately, a neighbour stopped her. Gravity shows no partiality.

In Romans 1, as Paul listed all manner of wickedness which men and women devoid of the knowledge of God will engage in, we read, "...God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due." The sin of homosexuality is identified as that which is "against nature". It is contrary to the intent with which God created man and woman. As a result, those who engage in homosexuality, according to the will of God, will suffer the penalty due their error.

Years ago, the emergence of HIV /AIDS was thought by some to be the fulfilment of Paul's words. Specifically? No. Generically, indeed. It would seem odd for the fulfilment of this assertion would take some 1900 years. HIV/AIDS is merely one of the latest in a long line of penalties which accompany the homosexual lifestyle. It is an observable fact that those who indulge in unnatural passions are inclined to disease, destruction and early death.

Friend, we need to be aware of this general principle, that if we conduct ourselves contrary to the laws of nature, ill happenings are on the horizon. Whether we're talking about cow-cannibalism (a greed-driven experiment gone bad), Mary Poppins roof-walking (child's play turned to a terrible accident), or illicit sexual relations (the misuse of a God-given desire), there is a penalty due for the error committed. When our action is in violation of God's revealed will also, there is a further penalty – an eternal penalty – for our sin, if we do not repent (Romans 6:23; 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9; Revelation 20:10-15). Let us therefore carefully watch our conduct, and diligently instruct others also in the holy way which God calls us to walk.

Who was Abijam's maternal grandmother? Was it Abishalom (1 Kings 15:2) or was it Uriel (2 Chronicles 13:1-2)? Is there a contradiction?
